Today’s Cyprus Mail describes a Greek Cypriot police raid in old Nicosia in search of illegal migrants. Whilst this would seem to be a fair, taking in 150 people “for identification” seems strange as eventually only 48 arrests were made. People power wins ambulances U-turn – well not quite. The Lapta ambulance service is going to be reduced to “working hours.” The Head of the Doctors’ Union said it was “better than nothing” but a 75% reduction in services, particularly during the evenings and weekend, would still mean unnecessary deaths. This is terrible news... »

Today Embargoed! achieved an astonishing feat. For the third year running our human rights group have been able to attend and present a violation case study outlining clear evidence of human rights breaches against Turkish Cypriots. This has been done at the largest human rights convention held anywhere in the European continent.

In the north we have apparently had Ged the hairdresser put out of business because he only had a level 2 hairdressing qualification. Well you’ll be pleased to hear that, according to the Cyprus Mail, the government in the south does nothing about unqualified professionals even if they are negligent.

We have many Hummingbird Hawk moths visit our garden in Cyprus but you may have seen these in the UK, especially in the south of England. They do not over winter there as they tend to migrate from places such as Cyprus between May and September.
