If we’re really allowed to make our own …
Comment posted Beware when renting out property by Campbell Thomas.
If we’re really allowed to make our own morals up I’d say don’t complain when you get your fingers burnt in the “TRNC”. Considering the territory is based on lawlessness and immorality, it follows that extreme caution should be exercised in any transaction. Your rights are severely limited.

- I agree with this post. It’s strange how an apartheid system seem to operate in NCFP as to who can be critical of the TRNC authorities. And it’s equally strange that the editor of NCFP would wish to stifle free expression, especially words of warning like these:

So I would ask the editor if he is more concerned about upsetting the authorities (still “waiting for them to drop”
or if he really wants to serve his readers. - Malsancak wrote: “Ooh, I like it when you get angry.”
But not quite as angry as you must have been to pillory one of your own (censored) contributors on another website. Or was it just a spiteful bid for publicity? Judging by how many people are responding to your articles, it looks as though you should be more concerned about attracting readers in the first place.
You can do that by behaving as proper newspaper editors do and supporting freedom of speech and accountability. My local rags regularly carry unedited letters describing Tony Blair as a war criminal and criticising Gordon Brown, New Labour and British politicians as crooks and charlatans. Yet when I described the TRNC as being founded on illegality (UN Resolutions) and dishonesty (sale of refugee property and institutional corruption) you spiked my response so nobody could read it. You called it “acid”. Journalists call it fair comment.

But then believed you had honourable intentions setting up the “Free Press”. Maybe now you should define a free press and clarify who you stand for – the people or the ruling elite?

So far GCs are receiving almost no negatives for their posts but Campbell Thomas (Sgt Pike) is the first to get a poor comment rating and therefore be faded into obscurity.”
Hilarious! Did I hear a door slamming? Anyone who needs supporters to gauge their readers’ letters isn’t fit to edit a shopping list – as I think you know
Is this based on gold stars and sweets at FE colleges? You can’t challenge the GCs AND can’t handle a Brit who isn’t a TRNC stooge. To resort to such pettiness speaks volumes about your character and insecurities.

- Kulaksiz 5 in North Cyprus – structural integrity of property in question
Hey Ian,
The only socks around here are the sock puppets still running the north (for the time being).
My post above probably sums up the whole situation best, which may be why it annoys you. Why can’t, or won’t, you address the very simple points I made? By the way, I’m a somewhat disorganised person so I don’t know where you got that idea from. I just don’t behave like a f***ing c*ck when I’m buying property overseas – especially in places that are full of cheap, transparent crooks and gullible fools. - Kulaksiz 5 in North Cyprus – structural integrity of property in question
Before I bought my property in Kyrenia I had a contract drawn up and paid only a deposit until PTP came through. When that arrived I handed over the balance and was given my Kocan at the land registry the same morning. Prior to missives being concluded I conducted a full search at the “TRNC” and RoC land registries to make sure everything was in order. After that I ordered extensive renovations which were supervised by Kyrenia Municipality building control department. Hence no nasty cracks or other problems. Is it any surprise that people run into disastrous problems when they insist in behaving like complete bloody fools?
Also, some genius recently came up with the motto “no kocan, no money”. Maybe it’s just me, but isn’t that the way property is bought all over the world? It was the system operating when I bought my place in north Cyprus. So why have people not stuck to the safe, tried and tested way? It seems to me that since 2003-2004 the majority of expat purchasers have behaved like a bunch of stupid and greedy kids in a sweet shop. They may as well have stuck a note on their backs saying: “Dumb Brit. Rip me off.” And now they’ve ruined the system for everyone by giving free rein to the unscrupulous.

Embargoed! need to be fully investigated in case they receive any public funding for their ludicrous outpourings. I’d imagine Citizen Osman would not be too happy either if the Turkish Embassy is giving them bungs. Are they a charity? Human rights group indeed! - Akfinan Bank’s indecent proposal to Kulaksiz 5 North Cyprus property owners
Thunderbox,
Please don’t quote “Oor Bard”. I’m pretty sure he’d have a thing to say about Scots cashing in on the Cyprus conflict as so many have done. Given our own history and sense of justice one would expect better of a Scot and I always make a point of reminding our bad apples. That said I’m sad to hear of the state Pauline is in so I’ll give her a cyber hug even though she hates me

Tenants beware too. Tenants renting from a letting agent have no right to know who the ‘owner’ of the property is.
Some letting agents just pocket your rent and don’t inform the absentee owner that the property has been rented out.
It happened to me and a whole year’s rent was involved.

Ooh, I like it when you get angry. So you won’t be contributing any more? I hope we don’t lose too many readers because of that, or maybe you’ll actually write something worth reading as you promised, instead of being continually acid.
The ”letting agent”-Remax- claim all sorts of services and then disappear from sight. Stitch up would seem an appropriate phrase.
Police? What police? The part timers who supply no crime number, lack the courtesy to respond to phone calls and accept locals mistruths despite evidence to the contrary.
As no government email addresses respond to representations where does one go for police and justice?

hands up all those who paid tax on their rentals
hands up all those who think they could claim a tax rebate if the tenant absconded without paying the rent, left huge utility bills and stole some of the contents as they did in this article
