Turkey can enter EU without Cyprus settlement
The European Parliament has just approved a draft European Council document which in effect rules out action against Turkey if they ignore the 2005 Ankara Protocol and do not settle the Cyprus problem. This is despite the south Cyprus President demanding that Turkey withdraw their forces and recognise the Republic of Cyprus.
The implication, if the Famagusta Gazette has got it right, is that Turkey’s route to the EU just got a little easier.

Turkey can enter EU without Cyprus Settlement
Come on Dominic, it doesn’t say that at all.
I like the work you all do here but gross exaggeration won’t help your case.

I’m as skeptical as you, as you will note at the end of the article. I’ve been trying to confirm the Famagusta Gazette’s interpretation of the draft report but unfortunately so far I’ve been unable to get hold of a copy of the draft.
yes, of course Turkey Can join the Eu without the Cyprus Settlement.
just like cyprus did.
But that does not mean that the Cyprus problem is solved.
You will finally have to let us return back to our houses to the north.
And you will have to remove the Turkish troops out of Cyprus
You cannot by force keep people out of their houses in Europe like you do now by ignoring all the UN resolutions.
You just cant have it both ways.
And moreover then you will be accountable to the European court just like Orams..
Thats why Denktash is repulsed to your Eu Dreams..

Kyriacos, I look forward to the day when all Cypriots are back in their own homes (which will need rebuilding because they have in many cases, both north and south, been demolished) and where TCs and GCs are living side by side (which since 1960 when they took over they haven’t done.) Is this your EU dream too?

Malcolm, posting articles that hold blatent lies, that one of Lord Maginnis, isn’t going to help Cypriots go back to their homes.
If you want this online newspaper to hold more respect, you really should be more skeptical before publishing malicious propaganda spin by Embargoed!

As I said in another forum, one must be a complete and a total fool to even entertain the idea that it is legally and /or politically and /or technically possible for a candidate country (i.e. Turkey) to become an EU member state, without fully recognizing each and every other existing member of the club. No matter what the EP may have said -and I haven’t yet read its latest resolution but I doubt it includes such an absurd claim, RoC (as an EU member state) will continue to have its veto rights on both all the accession chapters individually and on final accession itself, even under the terms of the Lisbon treaty. The EP has no such power, to take a member state’s rights away, through a resolution.

GP, I published the words of Lord Ken in the House of Lords on the subject of north Cyprus. I would be interested in you stating what his lies were and supporting them with your evidence. This is what newspapers do, especially those focusing on north Cyprus. We try to publish both sides of the argument so please use the facility to become involved in the debate as I’m afraid you opinions about how NCFP should be run don’t coincide with my own.

I don’t want anyone to shoot me down in flames here, but this is a serious question – how many Jews lost their homes during the second world war…..and so, does the ‘Cyprus Problem’ actually go much deeper than Greek Cypriots, and indeed Turkish Cypriots losing their homes as a result of war. The list is probably endless when starting to consider the impact of wars.

Praxandros, as I too said on another board, you have your opinions about the importance of south Cyprus but they are not shared. When I look at the countries which are important on the world stage, south Cyprus does not enter the list. What they do will never be allowed to influence what the big players want to do. The UK barely gets on the list.

I guess my friend Malcolm the question is not whether the two of us share the same Dream
The Question is whether Turkey shares the same dream with us..
Because as far as i know Turkey also claims that supports the Settlement.. But there is a huge gap between words and Actions.
please allow me to clarify my dream so we can fully understand each other..
I have a dream that one day Cyprus, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my children will one day live in a Country where they will not be judged by their ethnicity nor their religion but by the content of their character.
I dream of a FREE Cyprus without troops and Armies neither Greek, Turkish or British, a Country where a Man can marry a woman and his Children will not have to chose a where to belong.
I dream of a Country that a man can be proud for being a Cypriot not a Greek OR a Turk
But,,
How can that Country emerge within the context of an Annan Plan or any other plan that is based on discrimination ?
How can such a Country emerge with Turkey Trying to Control and ”Turkishize” the North part?
How can such Country emerge when people are not willing to give back what they do not legally own?
Maybe we do not share the same dream after all..
By the way how many TC are left to dream any more? Are they still the majority on North Cyprus or Turks baptized as TC now own the place?
Oh..
for what is worth.. even now as we speak Cyprus Government builds houses for immigrants and gives them the Keys, you thing we wouldn’t help rebuild Tc houses? (if you agreed to a proper reunification and not an Annan Craplan builshits)

Kyriacos, let’s start with “I have a dream that one day Cyprus, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.”
Why wait, I believe that you’ll find of plenty of opportunities for you to start building your dream now? For example, what about the 130,000 people in the south, mainly Brits, without title deeds for properties they have fully paid for? Or is everything you have written just a pipe dream?

Kyriacos, you talk about your dream, well let me educate you, your dream was a reality back in the 1950′s when the Cypriots ( Greeks and Turks) leaved together in harmony, as a child I grew up with mixed comunity and I shared my dinner table with my Greek Cypriot friends, we didnt know any diffrent.
Than came EOKA and the future dreams and realities were shatered, suddenly we became a split community and the divide got bigger and bigger.
Like many Cypriots my parents decided that we had no future in Cyprus and we left our homeland and settled in UK.
As a child I had dreams also and let me tell you, it wasnt about me leaving my homeland I wanted to finish my education in Cyprus, work in Cyprus, get married in Cyprus and grow old in Cyprus.
Thank you EOKA for shattering my dreams./

What a load of crap Ben… Really, You expect me? a sane person to defend EOKA? My grand father also left Cyprus because of EOKA but his brother was not that lucky and god murdered by an Eoka gunman. In case you don’t know EOKA killed 217 GC.. 105 brits and only 53 TC So don’t give me a lecture about what happened in cyprus. But regardless of all that, you gotta be a clown today not to at least acknowledge that EOKA fighters had good intentions (to free Cyprus from the Brits) despite the fact we ended up in a crapload of a mess.. Don’t forget we talk about darktimes when the majority of GC and TC were uneducated farmers. And rulled by an orthodox gay Priest and the British empire. A lot of things have changed since then. And allow me to point out that not only GC did crappy things in those days, TNT fought for the partition of Cyprus as well.. Rauf Dencraptaş admitted that they were trying to trick tension between the two communities with provocative actions so that they can achieve there goals. (partition) I think we can both agree that both communities had their Crazy people and their share of fault.. the thing is that yours are still alive..
Anyhow nowdays they are just an insignificant minority 5-10% and because they do not have guns any more i believe they cannot play a major role.
The Real problem today is Turkey who wants to control Cyprus FOR EVER and does not let TC just became Cypriots. They want them to be As ”turkish” as possible (loud with mustache) so they demand absurd things like GC not be allowed to Seattle freely in North Cyprus. The land they own by their fathers their grandfathers and greatgrandfathers..
So for nowdays problems i blame your side only..
Malcolm i am sorry but i do not understand what your saying… in the South do not exist any Brits or any other person whatsoever without title deeds for land they legally bought.. (unless if that land belongs to TC and they build inside without owning it) Those kind of things only happens to North Cyprus..
And you know its not that easy to just allow to anyone British – German or whatever to just buy a stolen land and say everything is ok.
The only one to blame for this injustice is your politicians who make money out of this mess by selling land they do not own to foreigners so they can complex the problem even more hoping that this way they can legally rob us.
I am sorry.. i do not have anything against Orams or any other British in fact i like them a lot they look nice people.. (even the guy who sued them says that) but how can i allow them or anyone to build on my land?
I mean in Britain If any cypriot or british builded a shack into queen Elisabeth’s back yard and bought a ”title deed” from a crazy gardener who said he owned the place. Queen E. or the British Gov would had allowed him to keep the Cottage?
I think not..
ps..
i am really seeking for an answer here Malcolm.. Coz i really do not know the answer and i am curious.. How many TC and How many Turks baptized as TC live today in North Cyprus ?
I am not being sarcastic i really wanna know..

Kyriacos, “You expect me? a sane person to defend EOKA?” and “EOKA fighters had good intentions” don’t go well together as your second statement appears to contradict your first one.
“The Real problem today is Turkey who wants to control Cyprus FOR EVER and does not let TC just became Cypriots.” How did Turkey affect the GC vote in 2004 which would have allowed TCs to just be Cypriots?
“in the South do not exist any Brits or any other person whatsoever without title deeds for land they legally bought.” Read the Cyprus Mail – http://cyprus-mail.com.dev2.sideshow.com/cyprus/legal-solution-may-not-provide-title-deeds-all
“How many Turks baptized as TC live today in North Cyprus,” I only know the number for those of voting age which I believe is around 60,000

I think i was clear to what i said.
Sure EOKA’s fight as history have shown ended up creating more trouble than good. But you cannot deny that their intentions were good. (To Free Cyprus from British) As many other anticolonial movements Eoka had its dark and bright side. If you chose to see it all Black or all white then you are a Clown to me.
Again the numbers speak for themselves: Eoka did not had a Goal to Kill all turkish Cypriots.
As for the.. Annan plan.. i believe you are joking.. right?
Find me one Free country that not only one but three foreign countries (Turkey Greece and Britain) have the LEGAL right to invade that.. Free Country..
Find me one Country that 3 other Countries will Forever and ever have the right to hold troops to its soil..
Find me one Free country that divide its citizens with racial discrimination and says who is gonna live where..
I am not talking europe here.. even Africa after the fall of apartheid you cannot find this crap..
Sorry mate but if this is your dream for a free united Cyprus i ll pass..
We shall wait till the time is Right and Turks finally realize what crap they have for brains and ideology..
maybe then we can settle things down…
