Wootton Bassett – Freedom of Speech
Although this topic is not specifically about north Cyprus we at NCFP feel that as some members of Cyprus44 feel the need to discuss whether radical Muslims should be allowed to demonstrate about the deaths of Muslims at the hands of British troops in Afghanistan then they can do it here. Personally I believe that the whole event is a publicity stunt to get Brits to fall into the trap of expressing racist views about a demonstration which will never take place, allowing the group to recruit a few more disgruntled Muslims who are upset by any racism directed at them personally.
If we start with the view that the demonstration will obviously not be allowed because of public order issues, that’s if the group even apply for permission to demonstrate, what else would you like to say?

You may be correct. Heard on the news this evening that permission for the demonstartion has not yet been lodged with the Police.

As an ex servicemen, I think we should let them march through so that we can get a picture of each and every one of them for posterity, as long as they do not come along on a repatriation day when it tends to get a bit crowded. Perhaps the BNP could be persuaded to march through on the same day in the opposite direction. Freedom of speech is what it is all supposed to be about, so they could talk to each other and maybe sort something out between themselves.

as people are saying, in UK we have freedom of speech but only in certain public places. e.g. in Hyde Park Corner but not in a library reading room.
We could always ask Iran to lend us a few dozen of their policemen who have an excellent record when it comes to crowd control during anti-government protests. You know, it’s the way things are done in many moslem countries and we wouldn’t want to be accused of treating them any differently than they would be in a moslem country.

Nice one Vaughan.
I sadly couldn’t make it to Wooton Basset today, snowed in, but I go when I can. It is very moving and all are welcome, if this clown took the bother to go he might actually learn something. I would be happy to meet him and explain the score.

Why is it that legitimate political groups like the BNP are often not allowed to March but those of an anti British stance are allowed to at Military home coming events such as Luton?
