Sad death of David Carter, author of Cyprus Tapes
Sadly, David Carter died of a heart attack on 18th December 2009, aged 71. He was an occasional contributor to NCFP and had written several books about the Cyprus Problem including the Cyprus Tapes and had just completed a book, Aphrodite’s Killers, about the Greek Cypriot EOKA terrorist group’s activities. He was co-author of the Britain’s Small Wars website which publishes the stories of those who were actually involved in Britain’s smaller 20th Century conflicts.
His ashes will be scattered in the sea next to his favourite spot near the Dome. He leaves a wife Wendy, a daughter Sheryl and son Matthew. We at NCFP will miss the informed, gentlemanly and insightful contributions he brought to discussions here.

Well, he’ll get no tears from me, he had nothing good to say about the GC’s, only that we were all a bunch or terrorists.
Oh and by the way, the owner of the dome will be suing visitors to that hotel now, so, if he is on land connected to it, where do we send the writ?
Stelios, we do not ask for your tears just a little compassion.
Message 1 is an unfortunately typical response from a number of GCs, who seem only able to insult, demean and personalise their hatred and extremism.
But this one, I have to say, outdoes many of the others in his total lack of humanity.
Malcolm, is it possible to get a copy of that book (“Aphrodite’s Killers”
yet?
Ian, David was going to add a final chapter about the current talks, when they finished, and then he was going to publish. I guess the publication date may be brought forward but this has not been announced yet. I’ll keep those interested up-to-date on these pages.
I lost count how many times I invited David to debate a range of issues in the last 2-3 years but alas… facts were never his forte!
There’s a small group of authors worldwide who make a very good living writing spin to appease controversial political characters like Denktash, and Carter was one of them… what a waste of a life!
If you ever get another crack at life David, get your moral values in order.
Goodbye from unkie GR.
GET REAL
If you are real then I am happy to be a fake with a heart.
Stelios – you are beneath contempt. What did he ever do to you
ac cept tell the truth………….
Well, he’ll get no tears from me, he had nothing good to say about the GC’s, only that we were all a bunch or terrorists.
Well he got something right then.
R.I.P.
Troodo.
Get Real
I will stop posting when you get a heart, brains and b***s Prove to me you are a net contributer. Remember I have seen what has
happened to your infrastructure AFTER you became an EU member.
Intimidation doesnt work, neither do insults…sticks and stones..
sticks and stones……
“There’s a small group of authors worldwide who make a very good living writing spin to appease controversial political characters like Denktash, and Carter was one of them… what a waste of a life!”
Get Real, you really are pathetic.
Troodo.
Keep after them Polly.

“Get Real!” it’s a pity that now you’ll never get an opportunity to debate with David Carter, even if there is an afterlife.
As much as I found David’s work inaccurate and very biased may he rest in peace . My condolences to his loved ones.
Yiannis, you are gentleman.
Sometimes…

You wonder what lies underneath your cranium?
Memories of David Carter:
Some time ago, David insisted that I go through his latest book/manuscript and point out which parts I disagreed with but the problem was that it was a “love story” so I would’ve had to read through myriads of lovey-dovey bollocks just to get to the few interesting parts and I couldn’t hack that, but eventually I caved in and said… “Ok, send it out and I’ll flick through it and start a thread on the CF” and so I gave him a postal address.
Many days went by, and then many weeks, months, one year… err, where’s that manuscript David?
RIP
Good one Malcolm but I guess he will be too thick to see the
irony. Message 11
Had a couple of exchanges with David back in the Autumn of last year over the matter of the memorial in Kyrenia. Could never agree with his use of the “terrorist” word to describe the Popular Uprising for National Liberation of the ’50s.
However, clearly a man who showed a high regard for duty and service and great respect for those who served and gave of their lives for this duty.
Belated Condolences to his family and friends.

David and I crossed swords regularly as he had clearly become seduced by the Turkish occupation regime. Still, regardless of how he re-arranged the facts he was knowledgable about Cyprus and had a dry wit. He was fatally compromised as an analyst because of his close personal links with Denktas. However his concern for the Turkish Cypriot people was I believe genuine and I also send my condolences to his family.
Gee Pike, what a humanitarian fellow you are!
You send your condolences to his family. Wow.
But first you just have to comment that “he had clearly become seduced by the Turkish occupation regime”, that “he re-arranged the facts” and that “he was fatally compromised as an analyst because of his close personal links with Denktas (sic)”.
Your compassion is as blinding as your condescension.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
RIP David
Just picked up on NCFP website, the first time.
David Carter was my younger brother and I only heard about his sad death a few days ago, after many months of fruitless hunting for his whereabouts in the UK. A friend of his on BBC told me he had moved to North Cyprus some years ago. Whey we were estranged I shall never know, particularly since I thought we’d always got on. But that’s life. Now I’d dearly like to know how to contact Wendy, Matthew and Sheryl and offer my condolences. So if any kind person out there knows their address, email or whatever, I’d be more than grateful to receive it.
