TRNC Consumer Association name and shame builders

TRNC Consumer Association
It was something that the Homebuyers’ Pressure Group (HBPG) tried to do several years ago but now, Cyprus Today reports, the TRNC Consumer Association has decided to name and shame builders on their website at www.cyprusconsumers.org. Gwen Cassell had brought and won a case against the roofers who bodged the job and, instead of having to pay court fees and wait several years, she won the case quickly and without the usual legal red tape.
One factor which may have made the roofers settle with the Consumer Association rather than to go to court was the association’s threat to place their name on a blacklist on the website. How many times have we said that this was the only way to go about making builders think again about pushing poor standards on us? Previously they may have thought that we would never start an expensive lengthy court case against them but with this refreshing approach operated by the TRNC Consumer Association, anyone can quickly make the dodgy builder sit up and take notice.
You can either reach them on their website or on 0392 228 4683 or e-mail tukder@superonline.com

Fantastic! At last a modern approach to naming and shaming. This is the kind of thing that needs to be done to improve industry standards here, which will make postive changes for all residents.

I think it would be nice to have a list of the Banks who allow
builders/landowners to take loans on properties contracted to and paid for by someone other than the applicant for the mortgage.
It would give us the opportunity to decide whether we wished to deposit our hard earned money with such an Institution.
It is obvious that a balance sheet will look extermely unhealthy
when an outstanding debt becomes a ‘write off’.

I think it would be easier to compile a list of banks that don’t!
Thanks Malcolm
Can we do that then. Less of a target for litigation.
So there’s a challenge – anyone know of such a bank??

Sorry to say, it’s a bit late to start naming & shaming dodgy builders in the TRNC. Where have the TRNC consumer association been since 2003? Not many newly started new builds now. Bit like shuting the stable door etc.
Okay. Maybe better late than never, though.
