No Surrender – “The EU process is important for Turkey, however, it is not important enough to sacrifice Cyprus”. Turkey has told Europe that it will not withdraw its troops from Cyprus and will not surrender Maras to Greek Cypriot rule. The European Parliament on Wednesday backed calls for Ankara to change its tack on Cyprus but Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has denounced the recommendations as “one sided”. He said it was only possible for Turkey to accept reports from the EU  “if they are neutral, unbiased and unhampered by the politics of the bloc’s Parliament”.

Eroglu hits back at Union Protest – Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu has said that some of the axed public workers will be able to return to their jobs after admitting sacking them was a “mistake”. He maintained only 30 to 40 workers had lost their jobs in the cost cutting measures.

Struggling leaders fix new peace talk dates – The future of the peace talks apppears to be back on track despite both Cypriot Presidents struggling to win support. Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias is facing an uphill battle to keep his government together after coalition partner the Socialist Party (EDEK) pulled out in protest at his approach to the negotiations.
