Invitation: Rev Jesse Jackson OBV Election Campaign Launch
We know that many Turkish Cypriots based in the UK read NCFP so we thought we would publish this invitation to a meeting intended to increase voting awareness amongst minority groups.
Operation Black Vote (OBV) is the UK’s leading campaign group to encourage and inspire Black and Minority Ethnic groups to play a full and positive role in the democratic process.
This Friday, 26th February 2010 at 11.00am, US civil rights icon Reverend Jesse Jackson comes to the UK to launch OBV’s general election publicity campaign in Westminster.
Emblazoned on a 100 foot billboard poster the slogan: ’ Expect the best from yourself and society. Register to vote’, aims to mobilise BME communities up and down the UK to use their voice and their vote in the upcoming elections.
We would be delighted if you could attend this historic event. The launch will be attended by Ministers and Shadow Ministers, PPCs and other political candidates, and civil rights activists.
The launch will take place at Albert Embankment, opposite Prince Consort House, 27-29 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TJ.
BME communities are in a unique position to make a defining impact on the outcome at the general election.
We look forward to seeing you. Please rsvp to Francine Fernandes on 07917786062 or Ashok Viswanathan on 0772594 5877.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Woolley
OBV Director

ME, an ethnic minority is a racial group within a community that can be discriminated against by another racial group which through their majority vote in elections can dominated the minority, e.g. 1963 in Cyprus.
As for the case of Petros Kakoullis, I suppose it is only fair to let Rauf Denktaş have his say on the matter http://www.mfa.gov.tr/letter-sent-by-trnc-president-rauf-denktas-to-the-greek-cypriot-leader-glafkos-clerides_-12-november-1996.en.mfa
As for the truth of the matter, I know the EU has issued a condemnation and President Klerides disagreed with Denktaş’ version of these killings as per http://18.85.3.140/news/cyprus/kygtpen/1996/96-10-25.kygtpen.html
If such matters are still in the minds of GCs then it is no wonder that there is not a chance that the divide between them cannot presently be removed. Too many people, on both sides, might decide to take revenge for past events. Ironically, the success of the “Peace Talks” might actually mean the end of peace.

Of course not – you and the TCs are white in the winter
and a lovely shade to tan in the summer.

ME, I am quite capable of saying all the things that you are accusing me of if that is what I wanted to say, and you know it. What I wrote was:

You got a problem with any of that, ME?

Pontius Pilate did not sit on the sidelines, he did his best in a very difficult situation where he had the balance the demands of the Romans, the Jews and the Christians.

And then he washed his hands of the whole mess – guess he had more
chance of getting that camel through the eye of a needle than a rich man has in entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Well it is Sunday
tomorrow. And Masta can you tell me did the Greeks write the Bible?

Aaah, ME, we are all just visitors. Pilate in fact is a much misunderstood figure in the bible. Some theologians believe that when he asked the Jews whether he should release Christ the Saviour or Barabus the Zealot he was being ironic because Barabus means “son of the father,” and what Pilot was asking is what aspect of Christ did the Jews disagree with; the saviour or the revolutionary?

You referred to the excerpt from the scriptures as a greek saying
in an earlier post. Not nit picking just marrying two threads.
Who we eat and drink with is entirely our choice. You know
when I was five I had a little friend who said ‘If you are her friend you cannot be mine’ It is permissable to childish at
five, but not now surely.

No, I’m not auto-hiding your posts. I wish there was such a facility, but not for your posts, but there isn’t.

The Queen of misdirection – thank you.
You talk as if the reason the GCs cannot return is our fault.
When I tell you I wish that we could ALL live together in harmony, I guess you will not believe me – but I do.
My assets here are enough money to live on – nothing more.
I do have assets in the south, I did own a house there for 10 years
and lived there permanently for five years. I like it here because
it reminds of the south in the mid 80′s. The reason I left was
because of the influx of eastern europeans – the whole atmosphere
and ambiance changed then. I never consider anywhere permanent
and if the fancy takes me, I shall move on. I enjoy living here,
the people are similar to GCs, I never sede the army personnel
other than when I drive past, I get no feeling of being in an
occupied country.
