Karpaz Gate Marina to become the best in eastern Mediterranean
Karpaz Gate Marina is currently being constructed by Sea-Alliance Group Ltd, a maritime services operation specialising in marina developments according to Britain’s All At Sea Newspaper is to be “enhanced significantly to provide the very best repair and refit facilities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).”
This facility will open up the Karpas for marine visitors and bring additional economic benefits for the development of this area. All vessels based at or visiting the marina will have access to a 18,000sqm dry dock for refit and repairs aided by a 300 tonne crane instead of the 180 tonne crane originally planned. This crane is larger than most found on the Turkish coast and is the biggest in the TRNC.
Roy Klajman, Managing Director of Sea-Alliance Group Ltd, says: “it has always been a priority for the owner and managers of Karpaz Gate Marina to offer world-class facilities. Improving the repair and refit facilities beyond our original plans is an important part of that strategy. Visiting superyacht and megayacht owners will have access to the largest and best possible maintenance facilities in the eastern Mediterranean and we anticipate that this will be a big draw for visitors.”
The marina is set to be completed in Spring 2011 and is currently on time. More than 400m of the 650m of breakwater is now complete and 90m of the 150m the second breakwater is complete. These will ensure a sheltered environment for yachts requiring either an eastern Mediterranean home port or visiting berth.

haha
no pls do.
one has to wonder regarding marina viability, there are 4 MAJOR size marinas being built in the south.
I doubt this related to GC land, when there is large money risks involved people usually do their homework.
personally i dont see marinas being business in the easter med. We are surrounded by countries that dont like to wear swimsuits…

I wonder if this project will take as long to complete as the Girne by-pass.
I could start saving for a boat, or given the recent rains building an Ark might be more appropriate.
Do you need PTP for a berth?

When BMW, Mercedes and Porsche start building boats, Cypriots will take to the water.
I can never believe how few boats we see off our coast. If this was the South coast of the UK or the Western Med., the sea would be “heaving” with yachts.

I will be driving up to the site this Sunday after I fly in on the Saturday. So let’s see if it even has the potential to be like some of the harbours of the Western Mediterranean where I spent 3 weeks sailing on a friend’s yacht in the summer.
I have spoken to my girlfriend as she has visited far more ports than I have in my time and has been on the large executive yachts that this harbour is hoping to attract. If it matches up to likes of Ibiza, Portals Nous, Port d’Andratx, Monaco, Barcelona and Marbella. Then there may be a chance of it making it.
But it is going to have to be something really special to attract these sorts of yacht owners to even consider bringing their yachts this far down the Med. Maybe it could be stopping off point on the way to the Middle East and on to parts further afield.
Let’s hope it does not end up like all the other ports with old dilapidated fishing boats that have questionable sea worthiness and generally make the place look untidy.

Sorry Woody, but I’d take the looks of a dilapidated old fishing boat over a multi-million-dollar gin palace any day…

Each to there own.
But I would rather look out on harbour filled with yachts like this. Yes some of them are expensive, but generally if somebody can afford a yacht like this they have a fair amount of disposable income that will help with the economic growth that North Cyprus desperately deserve.
These are examples of the types of yachts and motor cruisers. Yes some of them may be more expensive that others so I have tried to include a range so not to be accused to choosing multi million pound yachts only.

From the Architectural renderings this is the type of boat they want to attract. Much nicer looking than an ‘dilapidated old fishing boat’ don’t you think.
You will not attract decent yachts if there are fishing boats sharing the mariner, they generally to be pretty rough looking, smell and make the place look untidy. This has been confirmed by close friend of mine who is an owner of a transatlantic racing yacht.
OK yes dedicated mariners/harbours/ports for fishing boats can be nice place to visit if like the industrial architecture of the boats and the buildings that are associated with the area. Which I do, however they do not mix well in my opinion.

Neither the free part of Cyprus not the occupied ares have what it is required to attract yacht owners . A total waste of money that could be used to clear the eyesores that are evident in both parts.
Monte Carlo watch out , the pseudo state will entice away the millionaire yacht owners , look what it has to offer , a “nation” with 40 thousand occupying troops and filled with British cheapskates mostly over 70 and Anatolian peasants so no picking up …birds there Oh boy irresistible , I can see them rushing in !!
